We are so excited to begin this journey and that you are interested in our story! So here it is...

Dillon and I (Jenny) met in 2016 and started dating in 2017, we bought our first home together in the fall of 2018 and in 2019 began our first experience with hobby farming on our 2.5-acre property in Lake, Michigan. We started our adventure with 4 Khaki Campbell ducklings that I just had to have from TSC and a small garden with strawberries, peas, cucumbers, and carrots.
Then came 2020, now we all know how crazy the pandemic was and that was no different for our family. I was a bartender-the entire pandemic killed my job. The little small-town bar I worked at completely shut down for a long time, would open up for a while, and then shut down, on and off from March on. This gave me lots of time all summer to learn new skills, take care of my ducks, and grow different produce. Dillon was lucky and his job was not affected by the pandemic. Then in August of 2020, my Grandmother passed away. This left my family home and property empty for the first time since 1974 when my Grandparents built it. Dillon and I decided to purchase my Grandparents' home and update it (let me tell you it REALLY needed updating)! Now we are finally here after over 9 months of hard work! This property is so important to us as this is where I spent most of my time while I was a young child and without us purchasing it, my family would have had to sell it. We decided to sell our home in Lake and use the money to homestead full time! We've been working on getting to this point for some time and we are so happy to be here!
We started our journey here at the new homestead and let me tell you, we are going all-in (or at least trying to). This year (2021), we've added so much to our garden, started gardens in our 14-acre woods, started beekeeping, and now have 27 ducks with more to come. I've begun
making soap and also making yummy jellies!
Let us know if you have any questions about our farm! It isn't much yet, but it is ours and we love it so much! We would love to share any of our knowledge with you!
